After the Harvest
This two-hour TV drama is based on the groundbreaking literary classic
Wild Geese, written in the 1920's by Canadian author Martha Ostenso.
It's a haunting study of human cruelty; a story of love and tyranny,
destruction and survival, set in the sweeping landscape of the Canadian
prairies. After The Harvest was adapted for the screen by Gemini
Award-winner Suzette Couture (Haven, The Sheldon Kennedy Story) and
directed by Genie Award-winner Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses). After
the Harest stars Sam Shepard (The Right Stuff), Alberta Watson (The
Sweet Herafter), Nadia Litz (The Five Senses) and Liane Balaban (New
Waterford Girls). Caleb Gare (Shepard) is the richest farmer in the
district who is obsessed with acquiring land. In spite of his wealth, he
keeps his wife Amelia (Watson), and their children, including their
rebellious daughter Jude (Litz) in near-poverty. There is a secret, a
pact about motherhood and morality made years ago between Caleb and
Amelia that has made hostages of them all. |
